North End

The streets between the north beach and the lid — a lot of mid-century houses with kitchens remodelled around a 36-inch Wolf range and a hood ducted through the roof line.

North End is inside our normal Mercer Island route, which is the practical difference between a two-hour arrival window and a whole day at home waiting. Because the whole service area is one island, a second visit for an ordered part is rarely more than a few days out.

Most Wolf installations here are set into millwork that was built around the appliance. Floor protection goes down before anything is moved, the unit comes out on the gas line's own slack rather than being dragged, and the anti-tip bracket is re-engaged and checked in front of you before we leave.

  • Blower stuck on one speed and the light bank kept flickering. Two separate faults, both explained, both fixed in the visit. He also pointed out a duct problem that was not his to fix.

  • The simmer setting kept dropping out on the back burner. Turned out to be a worn valve rather than the igniter everyone else blamed. Explained clearly, priced before the work, no surprises after.

  • Induction hob cut out under load and showed a fault. He identified the inverter quickly and it has been fine ever since. The part took a week to arrive, which is hardly his doing.
