What the $89 buys

One flat $89, at any address on the island, from the North End down to The Lakes. It pays for the drive to the house and for the diagnosis in full. Diagnosis here means the panels come off and a meter goes on the suspect part, so that a fault is named from a reading rather than from the symptom. The fee does not change with the unit: a convection steam oven, a dual fuel range, a cooktop or a hood is diagnosed for the same $89.

How the $89 is credited

Once the fault is found, you get one figure for the repair, written down, before any part is ordered. Say yes to that figure and the $89 is subtracted from it. Say no, and the visit is the whole charge; nothing is added for the drive or for the time spent measuring.

Before the visit, and during it

The call comes first, and it often decides whether a visit is needed at all. We ask for the model from the rating plate if it can be reached, the exact words on the display, and whether the range is dual fuel or all-gas. Several answers end there. A steam mode chosen while the cavity is above 210°F makes no steam by design. A dual fuel oven that switched itself off at the end of a long slow cook may simply have reached the 12-hour limit Wolf builds into its current ranges, outside Sabbath and dehydration. A descale message asks for a bottle of Durgol, not a technician. When the answer is one of those, we say so rather than book a visit.

On the visit itself, the unit is opened and measured, the failed part is named, and the figure is written down for you to approve or decline. Parts are ordered against the serial number on the rating plate. When a part has to be ordered, the unit is left safe until it arrives.

Every visit is booked inside our bench hours, which run from eight in the morning to eight at night on all seven days.
